With a signature
blend of action, humor and character-based spectacle, the saga of the
world’s toughest, kitten-loving hero from Hell continues
to unfold in
Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
Bigger muscle, badder
weapons and more ungodly villains arrive in
an epic vision of
imagination from
Oscar®-nominated director Guillermo del Toro (Pan's
Labyrinth, Hellboy).
After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of
the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless
leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline
and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it’s up to the planet’s
toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his
marauders. He may be red.
He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done
right, it’s time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman).
Along with his
expanding team in the
Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense—pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma
Blair), aquatic empath Abe (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic mystic Johann—the
BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one,
where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. And Hellboy, a creature of two
worlds who’s accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and
an unknown destiny that beckons him.

Liz Sherman
Born in Kansas City, Kansas, on April 15, 1962, Liz
was a normal child until her pyrokinetic abilities began to manifest
themselves around her eleventh birthday. The eruption took the lives of her
family and destroyed an entire city block. The final tally was 32
casualties, including three firefighters. Liz's file states that her last
uncontrolled manifestation was July 4, 1984.
She was taken in by the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense where she
learned to control her power to some degree. She was often teamed with
Hellboy and Abe Sapien. Her childhood trauma left her bitter and she has
often left the B.P.R.D., but she always returned, presumably because it is
the closest thing to a family she has.

Selma
says
"I cannot wait and I so look forward to being back with the gang. They're
just really my most amazing loveable buddies, so I can't wait."
"I'm so lucky that when I do get the real chance to play a leading woman
I have directors who are so cool that they let me play her in more of an
awkward, not overtly sexual kind of way that I think gets made such a fuss
of in Hollywood. Guillermo has a great sensibility."
"I would love to have a child, but I want to wait until Hellboy's
over, because that will be another long, arduous shoot in another country."
"I looked hot in that first one, that worked so well for me," Blair
laughs. "No, I did, I loved that movie… No, I did the costumes, I didn't
physically make them. But yeah, we kinda came together with what I want. I
want Liz to be a little bit more controlled and sexier for the second one,
so hopefully the wardrobe will look like that…"
"I talked with Guillermo last week, I was in Europe with him and he told
me some of it, but I'm sworn to secrecy. But it's so good, it's so
good, I'm so excited, and it's funny."

Set Preview
The set of Hellboy II: The Golden Army is completely surreal. You’ve got
competely made-up actors and stand ins, mechanical hands and faces, smoke
spewing fishbowls and much more!
What more could you ask for from a movie by Guillermo del Toro?!
The IESB headed out to Budapest, Hungary this week for a visit to the set of
the highly anticipated sequel starring, once again, Ron Perlman, Doug Jones
and Selma Blair. Along with a group of online and print journalists, we were
able to speak at lengths the incredibly talented del Toro while he was
shooting a scene with Doug Jones in one of his many fantastic costumes.
It’s been a great time hanging out with my favorite set visit buddies Ed
from comingsoon.net, Cindy from scifi.com and Kyle from ugo.com! We’ve all
been world travelers this year but the visit to Hellboy II has certainly
shaped up to be a big highlight amongst the productions.
Writer/director Guillermo del Toro is one of the most down-to-earth, unjaded
people making films today. He really loves film and he loves the people he’s
working with and it shows.
On our visit, the IESB was able to speak with not only del Toro but also
with returning castmates Doug Jones and Selma Blair. Our group also spoke
with Hellboy newcomers Luke Goss and Anna Walton who play Prince Nuada and
Princess Nuala respectively. Unfortunately due to illness, we weren’t able
to speak with the big Red One himself, Ron Perlman.
I haven’t been this excited about a movie in a while! Hellboy II has got all
sorts of crazy creatures, lots of action, stuff blowing up, truly great
characters and a phenomenal director at its heart.
Stay tuned to the IESB as we are able to post the entire interviews with the
actors, talk about what we saw on set plus take a look into the creature
department from Hellboy II: The Golden Army!
